A quick note on passion and not waiting any longer to pursue yours

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

- Oprah Winfrey

I knew earlier on in life that I enjoyed being around people. I discovered after a season of battling depression and loneliness that I wanted to dedicate my life to ensuring that any young woman I encountered, never had to endure struggle without having someone to talk to. My passion for mentoring young women started with prayer and a need to vent. That venting turned to night upon night of typing away my thoughts on a battered Dell computer. The process was cathartic, bringing in new levels of clarity as I tried to make sense of all the things that were going on in my mind during that time. With some mad soul-searching, the advent of blogging and the evolution of digital content, was born, and four years later since our first few blogs went live on Wordpress, we now host events and get an opportunity to learn from other women who too are navigating the same life experiences as we are.

There'll be times in life where the only thing getting you out of bed is your passion, the dependency of others to receive of your acts of kindness or because YOU told yourself you needed to get up! In difficult times, sometimes only the things you are most passionate about will keep you going. Your thoughts and desires, etched onto your wall of dreams may be the only thing that will sustain you when the going gets tough, or during moments when life seemingly fails to make sense.

It is therefore important to take time to clearly identify where your passion lies, and how you can develop it into something special, and authentically you. Discovering what you are passionate about oftentimes comes out of selfless exertion of energy towards things that positively impact the lives of others. In the words of British Actress Alia Bhatt, “Whatever you do, do with determination. You have one life to live; do your work with passion and give your best. Whether you want to be a chef, doctor, actor, or a mother, be passionate to get the best result.” Deeds carried out with passion present great tangible and intangible rewards, and it’s up to you to determine which of them speaks to you the most.

Don’t wait for the accolades to coax you to pursue your passion. Just get on with it because it excites you and bubbles through every fabric of your being without anyone having to say anything about what you’ve got going on. Don't be that person that fails to live or go after what they believe so strongly about because someone hasn’t handed them a trophy or two for their deeds great deeds. Push on. Speak what words need to be spoken – mostly to yourself - to get you to making a difference! Encourage yourself and be radical about finding that thing that gives you a sense of purpose!
