Chido Mashanyare shares on her journey to the light

Hey ya'll! I really hope you are loving the doses you inspiration coming through from the Authors of our all new book: "Reinvented & Victorious: The Anthology - 14 Women. 14 Stories. From insecurities to winning." Chido Mashanyare carries the baton from Author Takudzwa Chitsire, sharing with us her 5 musings on the journey to bringing this book to life. Enjoy!

RT: Tell us about yourself: name, location, and why you are reinvented?

CM: My name is Chido Mashanyare. I am currently based in Harare, Zimbabwe. I am reinvented because when I discovered that my true identity comes from God, and not my past or what others think of me, it freed me from the shackles of insecurity and depression to pursue my purpose. I am who God says I am!

RT: What has the journey of sharing your story been like for you? Why do you believe now is the right time to give people an inside peek into what has made you the woman you are today?

CM: When I heard about this opportunity to be a contributing author to Reinvented and Victorious, I felt a stirring within my spirit, I just knew that I was destined to be part of this project. Although initially, it was very difficult for me to share such intimate insights into my personal journey out of depression, I realised how important it was for me to share my story because it had the potential to impact someone else who may be in the grip of depression, to know that this is not how your story ends, there is life beyond depression.

RT: How relevant do you believe the message of combatting insecurity and pursuing an authentic existence is to today’s woman?

CM: I believe that dealing with insecurity is crucial to breaking free from the limitations imposed on women by society, by our families and even by ourselves. These limitations keep us locked in a false narrative that tells us “You’re not good enough” and prevent us from unlocking our true potential. It is only when we confront these insecurities head on by seeing ourselves through the lens of God’s truth and His unconditional love that we are able to embrace our authentic identities and become the women we were created to be.

RT: You have now added the title of “Author” to you list of accomplishments, or perhaps you fall under the list of women who long began telling stories through written content. Talk to us about why you believe it’s important for the African woman to be at the forefront of sharing her story, given today’s competitive media space.

CM: The African woman has long been hidden in the shadows, seen but seldom heard in a society that is often characterised by toxic masculinity and patriarchal views that have relegated her to play a subservient role. That is why it is imperative that we fully utilise the various platforms that allow our voices to be heard, to share our pain, our joys, our victories, our experiences with other women, in order to encourage them and show them that our stories matter, our voices matter.

RT: How do you hope your story will impact the lives of the readers of “Reinvented & Victorious: The Anthology”?

CM: My hope is that my story will resonate primarily with two groups of people. The first are those who are currently in the grip of depression, who may have lost hope that the clouds will ever shift, that they will ever regain their joy. My prayer is that my story will bring them encouragement that they can be completely free of depression, that there is light beyond the darkness.

The second group is those who may have loved ones who are depressed or have otherwise encountered someone who is depressed, and may be wondering how they can help that person, or who may not understand why the depressed person doesn’t just “snap out of it”. To these I want to share practical insights into what living with depression is like, in the hope that this will foster greater understanding and compassion, which will in turn empower them to be a force for good in the fight against depression.
